Fire and Fiber | Tarja Cockell and Carol Rissman | March 29–April 30 at Loading Dock Gallery | Reception April 1, 3-5 pm

Loading Dock Gallery @ 122 Western Ave, Lowell, MA 01851, USA, Lowell, Massachusetts, 01851, United States

Tarja Cockell joins Carol Rissman at the Loading Dock Gallery to present Fire and Fiber, a show of color, texture, and form in contemporary weaving and ceramics. Cockell’s work begins on the loom. She pushes dimensional possibilities of an initially flat form, using structural manipulation and layers with a variety of media to achieve elegant and painterly art. Trained in Finland, Cockell emphasizes subtle colorways and clean, simple shapes. Rissman explores how clay can respond to and take on the characteristics of cloth. Her work is woven and tied. It flows and ripples. She pushes clay’s boundaries to create fabric-like pieces: quiet, minimal, and meditative. The finished surfaces have a burnished glow. Cockell lives in North Andover, Rissman in Bedford. Both artists work out of Western Avenue Studios in Lowell.

Loading Dock Gallery @ 122 Western Ave, Lowell, MA 01851, USA, Lowell, Massachusetts, 01851, United States

Loading Dock Gallery presents 43.7623°N, 69.3203°W, a show of contemporary New England landscape painting. In August 2022, Nan Hockenbury, Heidi Jackson, Bethany Peck, and Noel Soucy traveled to Monhegan Island, ME. For six days they wandered the island and painted plein air. 43.7623°N, 69.3203°W knits together their diverse interpretations of those shared days, each artist using her own point of view to speak of the island’s rugged landscape and dramatic views. Hockenbury paints with interlocking lozenges of color, translating boats, houses, and stones in jewel-like hues. Jackson evokes nature’s fleeting beauty with textured, expressionist strokes and gentle colors. Peck responds to her island wanderings with intuitive abstractions, focusing on the convergence of sky and sea. Soucy offers atmospheric images, layered in texture, an exploration of process as well as of the landscape observed. 43.7623°N, 69.3203°W runs May 3-28, 2023 at Loading Dock Gallery, 122 Western Avenue, Lowell, MA: open noon-5:30pm, Wednesday-Saturday, noon-4pm Sundays. Reception 3-5pm, Saturday, May 6, 3-5pm. More at www.theloadingdockgallery.com. Loading Dock Gallery is part of Loading Dock Arts, Inc., a 501c3.

Double Vision: Art for Eyes Opening

CNCPT6 103 Market St, Lowell, MA

Join us at CNCPT 6 in Lowell, MA as we host a double chance to buy art from your favorite artists! We would like to invite you to participate in our gallery fundraiser "Double Vision Art Exhibition" set for an opening reception Saturday June 3, 2023 from 12-5 PM. This event is free and open to the public. Raffles, Prizes, Art, Drinks, Food, Kid Zone ready to paint eyes on the town for a fun family friendly afternoon for a great cause. We've curated a riveting gallery that raises awareness about childhood eye cancer and portions directly fund local eye cancer patients prosthetic eyes. Two cohesive pieces will be shown side by side both incorporating eyes. These are to be encouraged to be sold together but can be sold separately. We need your expression to “see” an artistic and inclusive world (with or without sight). We want to showcase that if eyes are windows to the soul then all eyes are an important story to tell, regardless if they are real or prosthetic (most children with retinoblastoma lose one or both eyes to cancer). All paintings will have at least one eye. But with two eyes, third eye, or hundreds of eyes...the choice is yours to choose what you see when your eyes are closed and we want your vision to be seen.
