Bus Tour of the Kerouac Sites of Lowell

Kerouac Park, Bridge Street

Visit the Commemorative at Kerouac Part and hop on the bus tour to see Kerouac sites throughout the City on Saturday, October 7th, at 10 AM. Bill Walsh will lead this tour, which visits Kerouac's birthplace, neighborhoods that are featured in Kerouac's novels, and Kerouac's gravesite at the Edson Cemetery. Reserve your spot by calling 978-970-5000. A $10.00 donation is requested to cover bus costs. This event is part of the 2023 Lowell Celebrates Kerouac Festival, which runs from October 5th through October 9th.

Walking Tour of Downtown Kerouac Sites

Kerouac Park, Bridge Street

Join Kurt Phaneuf in touring the most notable Kerouac Sites in downtown Lowell. The tour will depart from the Commemorative in Kerouac Park at 10 AM on Saturday, October 7th, which is the same time that the LCK bus tour departs. Phaneuf dedicates this walking tour to John Dorfner, who is the author of Visions of Lowell. This event is part of the 2023 Lowell Celebrates Kerouac Festival, which runs from October 5th through October 9th.

Library Haunts and Hooky Tour

Join the Library Haunts and Hooky tour on Saturday, October 7th, at 3:30 PM to learn about Jack's secret departures from school in order to read in the library. Hamilton Canal District History Tour

This walking tour will start at the site of former St. Louis de France Church (241 West 6th Street) and pass by sites from Kerouac's Visions of Gerard. Ghosts of the Pawtucketville Night Tour

Follow Bill Walsh and Kurt Phaneuf on the Ghosts of the Pawtucketville Night Tour at 5 PM on Sunday, October 8th! The tour will begin from The Worthen House Cafe with an additional meeting point at Cumnock Hall on UMass Lowell's North Campus at 1 University Avenue. Along the route, the tour will visit some of the sites that are described in Jack Kerouac's Doctor Sax. This event is part of the 2023 Lowell Celebrates Kerouac Festival, which runs from October 5th through October 9th.

Kerouac’s Nashua Connection Tour

Join Steve Edington for a van tour of Kerouac sites in Nashua, New Hampshire on Monday, October 9th, at 10 AM. The tour departs from and returns to the Lowell National Historical Park Visitors Center and visits sites primarily described in Jack Kerouac's Visions of Gerard, Doctor Sax, and Vanity of Duluoz with a turning point at the St. Louis de Gonzague Cemetery where the burial sites of Leo and Gabrielle Kerouac, Gerard Kerouac, and Jan Kerouac are located. Reservations are suggested - call 978-970-5000 to save your seat. This event is part of the 2023 Lowell Celebrates Kerouac Festival, which runs from October 5th through October 9th.

LCK Loop Tour

Follow Bill Walsh on the LCK Loop Tour on Monday, October 9th, at 10 AM. The walking tour will begin at the Commemorative at Kerouac Park and passes by numerous Kerouac-related sites in Lowell before concluding at The Worthen for the Wrap Party at approximately 2 PM. This event is part of the 2023 Lowell Celebrates Kerouac Festival, which runs from October 5th through October 9th.

The Merrimack: Lowell’s Lifeline and Legacy

Throughout Lowell’s history, the Merrimack has been the city’s most vital resource – a source of food, transportation, communication, recreation, millpower, and drinking water. Join John Macone of the Merrimack River Watershed Council as we explore Lowell’s riverfront, learn about the river’s past, its current condition, and the hopes and challenges for its future. Jack Kerouac Memorial Walk

Meet up with Lowell Celebrates Kerouac for a memorial walk at The Grotto on Saturday, October 21st, at 6 PM. Jack Kerouac passed away on October 21, 1969 in St. Petersburg, Florida. His Funeral Mass was held at Lowell's St. Jean Baptiste Church on October 24th.  He is buried in Lowell's Edson Cemetery. For the past several years, Lowell Celebrates Kerouac has held a Jack Memorial Walk on the date of his passing. The walk goes past the former Archambault Funeral Home where Jack was waked, the St. Jean Baptiste Church, and the Pollard Library, with readings at each stop. The walk concludes at The Worthen with a toast to Kerouac's memory. This event is hosted as a post-Lowell Celebrates Kerouac 2023 Festival, which ran from October 5th through October 9th.
