UMass Lowell’s Mary Jo Leahey Symphonic Band Camp program is an integral component of the community arts and instrumental music outreach programs offered at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. It is a thriving and vital community organization that provides an educational learning experience for both college music-student counselors and camp participants.
Enrollment is for students in grades 8-12. The majority of our students come from New England, but the program is open to all student musicians age 13-18. Students have wide varities of opportunities to perform in Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, mixed chamber, percussion or jazz groups, and take classes in composition, conducting, theory, piano, and introductory courses experimenting in sound recording technology, jazz improvisation, drumming and more.
A Symphonic Band camp is open to musicians who play woodwinds (like clarinet, sax, oboe), brass (like trumpet, euphonium, trombone, tuba, french horn), or percussion, or upright and electric bass, guitar, or piano.This Honor’s band camp inspires students from diverse backgrounds to live and work and achieve – together.
