45th Annual Banjo & Fiddle Contest

Rain or Shine! The Lowell Banjo & Fiddle Contest celebrates its 45th annual on September 12th 2026 from 10am to 6pm.
Join us for an exciting day of traditional music and family fun in Lowell, MA!
At the Lowell Banjo & Fiddle Contest, we invite you to come celebrate musical heritage. The repertoire of tunes played during the Contest is what Folklorists refer to as traditional music – music practiced by groups of people who share a common ethnic heritage, geographic region, or way of life. Tunes are shared within families and communities and are passed on over generations.
The event is free for everyone whether you are a contestant, joining us to listen, and/or participating in a jam or workshop. Bring your lawn chairs and settle in to watch the friendly competition and get in touch with our country’s musical roots.
The festivities start at 10am, with music workshops from 10am-11am, followed by organized jam sessions from 11am-12pm. The contest, other performances, and presentations begin at 12pm. The judges will tally the results and choose winners at 5:30pm or after the final contestant has performed.
