Free Soil Arts Collective’s 2nd Annual Juneteenth Celebration
June 19, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Save the Date! Join us on Sunday, June 19th for our 2nd Annual Juneteenth Celebration! This year we’re gathering on Market Street in downtown City of Lowell, MA – Government to highlight Lowell’s Black history and Black artists—featuring a mainstage of musicians and performers, poetry readings at local businesses, walking Black History tours, food, and Black artisan vendors.
We’re also excited to be working with BRM Production Management this year!
Juneteenth, also known as Emancipation Day, commemorates the end of slavery in the Unites States. On January 1, 1863, President Abraham Lincoln issued the final Emancipation Proclamation, freeing those enslaved. However, it wasn’t until over two years later on June 19, 1865, that slaves in Texas were notified by the Union Civil War soldiers of the abolition of slavery.
