Native American Code Talkers of World War I and II (virtual event)

Please join us for a presentation by Dr. William Meadows, University of Missouri, as he discusses the origins and evolution of Native American Code Talking, the use of Native American languages in the US Military, through both World Wars to contemporary recognition. The development of this tactic, different types of Native coded communications, code and alphabet formation, the over thirty groups that participated, their post war recognition, and popular myths about code talking will be covered. This presentation is based on the speaker’s 30+ years of fieldwork and archival research, including his contributions to the Code Talkers Recognition Act of 2008. Dr. Meadow’s Biography.
