The Seventh Annual Lowell Irish Festival, proudly presented by Guinness, will take place on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium. The festival will feature live entertainment, food, drinks, and family fun. Thanks to Guinness’s ongoing support, admission to this year’s festival is free for all ages. The Lowell Irish Festival has grown into one of the region’s most anticipated celebrations, bringing together the very best music, food, and community members to celebrate the rich Irish history and culture of Lowell. With children’s activities and family-friendly programming spread throughout both the indoor and outdoor areas of the Lowell Memorial Auditorium, the festival promises a full day of fun, flavor, and discovery for all ages.

Family-friendly, always fun and always free coming back to the amazing City of Lowell! See the magical creative circus of individuals as a cast of kinetic sculptures take over the city for the day! You'll be pleasantly surprised to see these teams of human-powered, hand crafted, all-terrain machines race head to head across the city as they traverse BoneShaker Alley (Lowell Cobblestones), the Maddening Mud Pit (50+ feet of mud!) and a plunge into the Merrimack River with a glorious finish in the heart of where it all started, Downtown Lowell!

Open Streets are a nationwide movement to encourage healthy activities such as walking and biking and the use of streets for outdoor dining, shopping, activities, and more. Lowell had its first in 2025, and DIY Lowell is bringing it back! Our goal is to support downtown businesses while showing all we can do besides making room for cars on our streets. We heard the feedback: Folks want more activities, food, and music! New features we’re working on are pop-up art inspired by local businesses, an interactive “Lowell’s largest quilt” experience, a poetry walk, live music all afternoon, and business partnerships for more al fresco dining options.

The Lowell Hip-Hop Festival is a new multicultural, family-friendly festival welcoming a diverse audience into Lowell through music, dance, and public art that spotlight local artists and reflect the city’s cultural richness. Rooted in Lowell’s own hip-hop and creative scenes, the Festival celebrates and teaches all four elements of hip-hop culture — MCing, DJing, Breaking, and Graffiti — across a full week of concerts, workshops, and community events held throughout the city. The Lowell Hip-Hop Festival operates under the fiscal sponsorship of the Greater Lowell Community Foundation, a 501(c)(3) public charity.
Every year, DIY Lowell collects community project ideas from the public. Anyone who pledges to help can vote on the ideas in September. The Community Idea Summit is the place where we kick off those ideas, and we want you to join us! The summit is where everything comes together — volunteers, experts, ideas and energy. We believe the diversity of perspective and experience people bring makes the ideas people bring a big success. Stay tuned for more information!
