Black History On Stage

Published: March 15, 2024

Throwback to February! The Black History On Stage: Blending the Past with the Present performance is a February 2024 Mini Grant Recipient and was organized by the UMass Lowell History Department and Theater Program. The free public performance was hosted as part of the Dean’s Speaker Series on February 29, 2024. We caught up with Dr. Chad Montrie, Professor at UMass Lowell, to get the inside scoop on what you should know about the performance by Brandi LaShay and Krasel Morales:

Question 1: How was the planning for this event initiated?

We began by seeking sponsors on campus.

Question 2: What was the most rewarding part of organizing this event?

Observing the creative process that Brandi and Krasel went through to put the performance into shape.

Question 3: What resources or tips do you have for other event organizers?

Even earlier outreach and promotion.

Question 4: What do you hope to accomplish with the Mosaic Lowell Mini Grant?

Demonstrate the potential of theater for historical interpretation and use that as a basis for active engagement in the present.
