Meet Clarence: music producer, audio engineer, and artist, who largely emphasizes hip-hop and melodic rap in his work! A graduate from the Los Angeles Recording School, Clarence shares with us the highlights of his career, as well as what it means to be a revolutionary in this spotlight.
1) How did you get started as an artist?
My passion for being an artist started as a kid. I remember watching all of the artists I looked up to on the TV and hearing music and wanting to do exactly what they did. As I got older, it became a form of therapy and also a great networking tool for me to connect with people.
2) When looking at your artistic career so far, what are you the most proud of?
I would say it’s hard for me to highlight one moment. Graduating from the Los Angeles Recording School with an associates degree in music production might be on top of the list, but even higher on the list I would say is the great people I’ve met throughout my music journey. Some of them have become close friends and even family, and without music, I would’ve never met some of them. I am forever grateful for that.
3) What tips or resources do you have for aspiring artists in your field?
For any aspiring artist in the field, I would say be yourself. Don’t be afraid to fail 1000 times and you don’t have to be perfect to be of value. I have a past that I’m not always proud of. But my shortcomings never stopped me from achieving my goals and setting a great example for those watching me. I would also say to spend a lot of time creating and master planning your next move because once the ball is rolling, it’s nonstop.
4) What do you hope to accomplish in your career?
I hope to create a legacy. I was inspired, not just by the creatives but by the revolutionaries. The artist who doesn’t just create, but innovates and inspires others. I’ve always heard the saying “the highest human act is to inspire,” so I want to do that at the highest level possible. My singular musical achievements are great, but knowing that I directly impacted somebody’s life in any way, shape or form, or was an inspiration to their creativity might just be the highest reward of them all.
